Volt, Star Of The Month
July carried on with the recent upwards sales trend, with over 13.000 units registered, up a very healthy 51% YoY, with the EV share increasing to 0.76%, a new all time high.
The Star Of The Month was the Chevrolet Volt, not only it was the first EV to reach the 100.000 barrier, after five and a half years on the market, but it did so by being the Best Seller in July, delivering some 2.406 units, its best performance in two years, does this means the GM product will finally take off? Will it be able to survive the Bolt hype, or will it thrive on the increased traffic due to the Bolt launch?
Looking below, the BMW i3 sales surged to 1.479 units, allowing it to climb to #6, the Kia Soul EV (179 units, new pb) climbed one position to #16 and the BMW 330e climbed two positions to #22, thanks to a pb 81 units. With Kia not willing to satisfy EV demand in full and BMW too busy with the 330e success in Europe, if there weren't production constraints, these two models could certainly go much higher in the ranking.

In the manufacturers ranking, Tesla (27%, down 1%) is comfortable in the leadership, while Chevrolet (18%) is doing a good job at keeping Ford (17%) at bay.
On a side note, 52 Toyota Mirai's and 8 Hyundai Tucson FCEV were registered, with YTD numbers of Fuel Cells now at 303 units this year, making it 0,003% of the US auto market.

Tesla Model S vs The Others
Pl | Model | YTD 2016 |
1 | Mercedes E & CLS | 27.683 |
2 | BMW 5-Series | 23.578 |
3 | Tesla Model S | 13.324 |
4 | Audi A6 | 10.150 |
5 | Cadillac CTS | 9.219 |
The Model S has found its place in the market, being the bronze medalist, behind the Mercedes E/CLS-Class and BMW 5-Series sales champs, with the rest of the competition unable to catch the Californian.
An interesting stat is that while the Model S is growing 10% YoY, all other models are dropping (Mercedes -11%, 5-Series -9%, A6 -24%(!) and CTS -18%).

The Model X has a tougher job than the Model S, not only it has a larger (And more dynamic) number of competitors, but also because of the SUV-Craze, they are selling faster than their sedan relatives, in July the Model X lost the contact from the top positions, dropping to #10 in its class.
